Pirinoa Peonies.

Homestead and Flower Farm

The garden now surrounds my life and constantly fills my thoughts

 What we do

Here at Waihora Homestead we grow a number of different varieties of peony but celebrate Duchesse de Nemours, an old cultivar with a full double bloom and beautiful scent. We have over 1000 established peony plants that we harvest long stemmed buds from in October through to December. These are then sorted, kept chilled and are transported to our outlets in Martinborough.

We also welcome gate sales at the homestead.

Duchesse de Nemours

Peony 'Duchesse de Nemours' are an oldie but a goodie - definitely one of our favourite Peonies. Delicious ivory white double flowers and the sensational scent of Lily of the Valley.
Paeonies (Peonies) are the true garden Aristocrats - these incredible plants are always strong in demand. Their GIANT, luscious blooms, and lovely foliage make them a real head turner in any garden. Paeonies thrive in frosty, cold areas, and are incredibly drought tolerant during the Summer months - in fact, it's recommended not to water these during the Summer!

Celebrity

Celebrity Peony (Paeony) - Gigantic rose-pink blooms surround the white tufted centers of this aptly named stunner. Lovely sweet fragrance and attractive foliage — perfect for borders, beds and cut flowers.

Karl Rosenfield

Karls make an excellent focal point in flower beds or borders. They also attract pollinators like butterflies and bees. Cut back the foliage after it has died back in Autume. When buying, look for healthy plants with firm roots. Container planting is an option too.

Bartzella

This multi award winning stunner has very large, bright yellow double blossoms with a slight red centre stand above the lush, dark green, deeply dissected foliage.

Flowers have a pleasant, slightly spicy scent. An especially vigorous plant with sturdy flower stems that do not require staking
